Sr. Corporate Counsel
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 10+ years’ experience as a practicing
attorney,
5+ years’ experience managing attorneys
and Legal Department,
Significant consumer bankruptcy servicing
experience required, Auto & Mortgage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the in-house auto, mortgage and recovery business. Create and then manage an internal Legal Department that services all bankruptcy jurisdictions as well as manage outside counsel on motion drafting and filing of pleadings.

Lead and maintain internal staff of attorneys and offshore Legal Support Team.

Assist in the sales process for Legal business products across all business lines.

Ensure Company complies with all applicable federal and state bankruptcy, collection /recovery laws, regulations and acts.

Ability to develop innovative approach to legal issues in support of strategic business initiatives and objectives in a standardized fashion. Coordinate, monitor and resolve all types of litigation matters with internal and external counsel.

Primary Legal contact with client base Legal Departments. Ability to grow relationships and foster mutually supportive environment.

Identify and incorporate best practices throughout the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
—
Responsible for the creation and management of the internal Legal Department.
—
This unit primarily supports the secured auto bankruptcy business through the creation and filing of Motions for Relief and Plan Objections within all bankruptcy jurisdictions.
—
Secondary responsibilities include all mortgage related legal activities.
—
Tertiary responsibilities include foreclosure and collection / recovery activities.
—
Coordinates requirements across all functional areas and between multiple sites to ensure program targets are met or exceeded for service, productivity, quality, budget, timeliness and employee engagement.
EDUCATION:
Juris Doctorate. Texas State Bar
membership is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
Instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
PC SKILLS:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, Outlook and Internet Navigation)
OTHER SKILLS:
Demonstrated ability to provide major client
responsibilities including research, counsel
and guidance on complex legal questions or
inquiries
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole
Numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
Percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in Situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of Instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
Active membership and good standing in
the Texas state bar as well as exceptional
academic credentials.
